Children’s Home-CACSD Host Critical Training

Survivors of child maltreatment suffer unique and complex trauma that requires specialized attention and care. Child Advocacy Centers believe that strong, evidence-based mental health services are fundamental to the multidisciplinary response to child maltreatment.

Unfortunately for South Dakota’s children and families, access to mental health services can often be challenging. Even more so, for those professionals who do practice within our state, training in trauma-focused cognitive-behavioral therapy (TF-CBT) is both difficult to find and afford.

Recognizing this statewide need, the Child Advocacy Centers of South Dakota and Children’s Home Society partnered to offer TF-CBT training to 30 mental health professionals from 10 different agencies across the State. TF-CBT is a highly researched, evidence-based model of therapy that is designed to treat children who have experienced an array of complex trauma. This training took place from May 31 – June 1 at Children’s Home Society’s Sioux Falls location.
